India, being a land of diversity, is a splendid mélange of diverse cultures, is a land of royal weddings—rich, rare and distinct.  Indian weddings are always vibrant, colorful and beautiful and each state has its own unique custom and charm.

The Rice Bowl of India, Andhra Pradesh is a melting pot of rich artistic traditions and cultures. A colourful mix of sacred rituals, the Andhra Wedding or Pendli is worth a watch. It is a series of elaborate rituals, and each ritual calls for a different ethnic ensemble. The outfit cannot be complete without exquisite jewelry.

Andhra weddings are mostly a grandiose affair with a mosaic of heavy silk sarees, traditional music and a sumptuous feast. And can one miss on the South Indian Bridal jewellery? Andhra weddings are marked by a generous amount of gold for its symbolism of prosperity and abundance.

The Andhra bride embodies goddess Lakshmi, as she is bedecked in gold and takes the Sapta padi–the Telugu Hindu wedding ceremony, which is sanctified by seven pledges, as it spiritually merges the two souls.

Clad in a 5.5-yard Dharmavaram / Ikkat, / Mangalagiri or any other saree with gold brocade, and decked in classic traditional jewellery—royal gold jewellery with intricate workmanship, necklaces studded with diamonds, sapphires and rubies, a headgear named papidibilla, a heavy gold chain with uncut diamonds, a nose pin, jhumkas, layered chains, armband, gold bangles, and an assortment of bangles in Emerald Green, Ruby. The Telugu bride looks extremely demure and resplendent. Her hands and feet flaunt beautiful mehndi designs and the hair is plaited with flowers.

Main jewellery for the occasion:

Vaddanam: A beautiful golden waist band studded with precious sotones.

A must in the jewellery trousseau are bangles with filigree work and contemporary designs. A collection of bangles designed by the best artisans, these ornate bangles come in an assortment of interesting designs.

A bare neck is a no-no for brides. Brides flaunt gorgeous chains in varying lenghths and made from gold, platinum or dual coloured etc.

The Mangalasutra is, of course, an inevitable part of the ritual. The traditional mangalsurta is a combination of gold and black beads.

Andhra weddings are a feast for the eye and the taste buds—a glorious, extravagant affair indeed!
